Rainjacket or raincoat? How to choose the right rainwear this autumn
23 October 2026
Autumn is in full swing, and in many parts of the country, the rain has already come down hard. In some places, the first snow has even arrived. Here at Uhip, we live by the motto that there’s no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

What should you wear when it rains?
Pulling on your rain jacket can feel like a chore, but it doesn’t have to. You shouldn’t have to choose between style and comfort, especially when you spend long days walking the dog or late evenings at the stables. That’s why we offer a range of rainwear, so you can find exactly what suits you.

Match your whole outfit with Rainy 2.0
We have both rain jackets and raincoats, so you can choose whichever you feel best in. A jacket gives you the most freedom of movement. A raincoat gives extra protection over the hips and thighs, which many riders appreciate in the saddle. Our Rainy 2.0 range comes as both a rain jacket and a raincoat, made from a waterproof 3-layer fabric with a 20,000 mm hydrostatic head. Add the matching trousers and you have a complete waterproof set.
Which trousers work best in the rain?
If you’ve chosen Rainy 2.0, you can complete the look with the Rainy Zip Pant 2.0, our waterproof shell trousers in the same 3-layer fabric with a 20,000 mm hydrostatic head. Full-length zips make them easy to put on and take off.

What should you wear when riding?
Dress in layers so you can easily adapt to the weather and how active you are. A wool base layer works well closest to your body, as it keeps you warm even when it gets damp. On top of that, add a fleece mid layer, and finish with a shell that protects against rain and wind. Choose breeches or riding tights that fit well, and don’t forget a helmet, riding boots or shoes with a heel, and gloves that give you a good grip on the reins.

Which raincoat is best for riding?
A good riding raincoat should keep you dry without restricting you in the saddle. Here’s what to look for:
A length that covers your thighs when you’re mounted.
A two-way zip and a high back vent, so the coat can open at the bottom and fall neatly over the saddle.
Leg straps on the inside that keep the coat in place and stop it from flapping in the wind.
A hood that fits over your helmet, so you don’t have to choose between safety and staying dry.
Our raincoats have all of these features. The difference lies in material, fit and warmth, so the best choice depends on how you ride.

A classic raincoat for every day
If you want a simple, reliable raincoat, the Winnie Raincoat is a safe choice. It’s made from PU-coated polyester that keeps the rain out effectively, and taped seams keep you dry all day. It’s a classic raincoat that copes with almost anything, whether you’re at the stables, out walking the dog or on your way to work. If you need extra coverage in the saddle, there’s the Winnie Raincoat Extended. It’s extra long, and the roomy hood and back vent give you plenty of freedom of movement when you ride.

When the temperature drops
When the autumn rain starts to come with a chill, Hailey Insulated is a great choice. It comes as both a rain jacket and a raincoat, with a lining that adds extra warmth on cold, damp days. The raincoat has an 8,000 mm hydrostatic head and taped seams, so you stay warm and dry even in the worst weather. The sleek design and well-thought-out details make it work just as well in the saddle as in everyday life, from early mornings at the stables to long walks with the dog.
We want heading out into the rain to feel easy, and we want you to see the joy in it. Who knows, you might even start looking forward to rainy days.
FAQ About our rainwear.
Should I choose a rain jacket or a raincoat?
It depends on how you’ll use it. A rain jacket gives you the most freedom of movement, while a raincoat offers extra protection over the hips and thighs, which many riders appreciate in the saddle. Several of our styles come in both versions, so you can pick whichever you feel best in.
What does hydrostatic head mean?
Hydrostatic head measures how much water pressure a fabric can withstand before water starts to come through. The higher the number, the more waterproof the fabric. Our Rainy 2.0 range has a 20,000 mm hydrostatic head, and the Hailey Insulated raincoat has 8,000 mm.
Are the Rainy Zip Pant 2.0 easy to put on over other clothes?
Yes. They have full-length zips, which make them easy to put on and take off.
What should I wear when it’s both cold and wet?
Hailey Insulated is designed for cold, damp days. It comes as both a rain jacket and a raincoat, with a lining that adds extra warmth. The raincoat has an 8,000 mm hydrostatic head and taped seams to keep you warm and dry.
Can I wear these outside the stables too?
Absolutely. Our rainwear is designed to work just as well in everyday life as in the saddle, from early mornings at the stables to long dog walks and the commute to work.
