How to Wash Your Field Jacket and Coat
21 October 2026
One of the best things about Field is that it’s washable. Unlike a traditional waxed jacket, Field never needs re-waxing – you simply wash it in the machine. Here’s everything you need to know to keep your Field Jacket or Field Coat clean, warm and waterproof season after season.

Before You Wash
Empty all pockets.
Brush off dirt once the jacket is dry.
Close all zips and snap buttons.
Turn the jacket inside out. This protects the delicate outer fabric and the water-repellent treatment from unnecessary friction.
The better you prepare the jacket, the gentler the wash will be.

How to Wash Field
Wash Field on a gentle cycle at 30°C, together with similar colours. If the jacket has stains, you can pre-treat them with a stain remover before washing. Use a mild detergent made for technical clothing, such as OrganoTex BioCare Sport Textile Wash, which leaves no residue in the fabric. Avoid bleach and fabric softener; softener leaves a film on the fabric that can reduce both breathability and water repellency.
Field should not be dry cleaned.
Drying
Take the jacket out as soon as the cycle has finished and hang it on a hanger at room temperature. Don’t tumble dry, as the heat can damage the membrane and the taped seams. Let the jacket dry completely before hanging it back in the wardrobe.

Keep the Water Repellency Going
If water starts soaking into the fabric instead of beading off, it’s time to reproof. Start by washing the jacket in OrganoTex BioCare Sport Textile Wash, which removes dirt without leaving residues that reduce breathability and water repellency.
Then reproof with OrganoTex BIO Spray-On Textile Waterproofing. Because Field is lined, the spray is the best choice: you treat only the outer fabric and leave the lining as it is. The treatment doesn’t form a film on the surface but bonds to the textile fibres, so the fabric keeps its breathability, colour and texture. Both products are bio-based and readily biodegradable.

Don’t wash more often than you need to. Stains and mud can often be brushed off once dry, and airing the jacket goes a long way between washes.
The Difference Between a Waxed Jacket and the Uhip Field Coat
Field is inspired by the classic style of the waxed jacket, but made from a durable technical fabric of 60% cotton and 40% polyamide. Its waterproofing comes from the fabric itself, with a 10,000 mm water column and taped seams. That’s why Field can be machine washed at 30°C and never needs re-waxing. This is the big difference from a traditional waxed jacket, which shouldn’t be machine washed and needs fresh wax to keep the wet out.
