Care for your Uhip

2024-08-01

Extend the life of your garments by avoiding washing your performance clothing too often, as this can wear them out prematurely. Instead, try wiping them down and airing them out first. Here are some simple tips to make your clothes last longer.

Start with the Basics...

Always follow the care label instructions. Check the label on your garment for specific washing guidelines. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us—we’re happy to help! We've also compiled detailed instructions for washing your Uhip garments.

Prepare Your Clothes for Washing

Before putting your garment in the washing machine:

• Close all zippers and fasten any buttons.

• Turn the garment inside out.

• Opt for an eco-friendly detergent.

Say no to regular fabric softener

Shell garments and other water-repellent clothing should not be washed with standard fabric softeners, as they clog pores and reduce breathability and waterproofing. Better yet, avoid traditional softeners entirely—they’re not great for the environment.

Tip!

For a natural alternative, mix 100 ml (3.4 oz) of 24% white vinegar with 400 ml (13.5 oz) of water and, if desired, add 10 drops of essential oil. Shake well, and add 2 tablespoons to the fabric softener compartment during washing. Vinegar softens fabrics, reduces static, and eliminates odors while preserving colors and cleaning the washing machine. Don’t worry—your clothes won’t smell like vinegar once dry!

Washing instructions

Caring for Synthetic Down-Filled Garments

Synthetic down is evenly distributed throughout the garment, so wash it only when necessary. Use a 30°C (86°F) cycle, and spin-dry thoroughly. Remove the garment from the washing machine immediately after the cycle ends. Hang to dry, fluffing and shaking it periodically to ensure even distribution of the filling. If needed, tumble-dry on low heat with tennis balls to restore the fill.

Wool garments

Wool is naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant, so it doesn’t need frequent washing. Often, airing it out is enough. When washing:

• Use a 30°C (86°F) wool or delicate cycle.

• Use a wool-specific detergent, like OrganoTex® BioCare Wool and Down Wash.

• Avoid tumble-drying, as wool is prone to shrinking.

Bamboo clothing

Like wool, bamboo fabrics are naturally antibacterial and odor-resistant, meaning they don’t require frequent washing. Airing them out often suffices. When washing, use a 40°C (104°F) cycle. Do not tumble-dry, as bamboo is prone to shrinking.

Rainwear

To maintain the water-repellent properties and extend the life of your rainwear, wash them only when necessary. Wipe them clean whenever possible. If washing is required, use a 30°C (86°F) cycle and hang to dry. Don’t forget to reapply waterproofing regularly.

Tops, Functional Pants, & Tights

Wash your tops, tights, and functional pants at 30°C (86°F). Avoid tumble-drying—hang them to air-dry. Note that Stella Wool Pants and Woolblend Breeches contain wool and should be washed according to the wool garment guidelines.

Re-Waterproofing Your Performance Garments

Performance garments need maintenance to retain their properties. Use OrganoTex® Spray-On Textile Waterproofing to preserve water and dirt repellency while maintaining breathability.

Periodically, use OrganoTex® Wash-In Textile Waterproofing to restore the fabric's water resistance without compromising its color, texture, or breathability. This is essential for all types of performance garments.
