Care for your Uhip

2024-05-07

Avoid washing your functional clothing too often, as this can cause it to wear out more quickly. Instead, try to wipe and air out your garments as the first step. Here are some simple tips to help your clothes last longer.

Follow the garment's washing instructions

Read the label on the garment to find out how to wash your particular garment. Or read more below where we go into more detail on how to wash your Uhip garments.

Prepare your garment for washing

Prepare the garment before putting it in the washing machine. Close all the zips, fasten all buttons and turn the garment inside out. Use an environmentally friendly detergent.

Say no to regular fabric softener

Shell garments and other water-repellent clothes should not be washed with fabric softener. It clogs the pores and impairs the garment's performance, such as breathability and water resistance. However, the best option is to avoid regular fabric softener altogether as it is not good for our environment.

But there is an excellent alternative to the fabric softener you buy in the store. Mix 1 dl of 24% vinegar with 4 dl of water and, if desired, 10 drops of essential oil. Pour it into a bottle, shake it, and add 2 tablespoons to the fabric softener compartment before washing. The vinegar makes the laundry softer, less static, and eliminates bad odours. It also helps preserve the colours of the clothes and cleans the washing machine at the same time. You don't need to worry; the clothes will not smell like vinegar when dry.

Impregnate your functional clothing

Functional clothing needs maintenance to retain its properties. With OrganoTex® Spray-On Textile Waterproofing, you can preserve the garment's water and dirt repellency while maintaining its breathability.

Regularly, you need to re-impregnate your garment. We recommend OrganoTex® Wash-In Textile Waterproofing. The product restores the textile's water-repellent ability while preserving the colour, structure, and vapour permeability of the fabric, which is vital for all types of functional clothing.

Washing instructions

Clothing with synthetic down filling

Synthetic down is evenly distributed throughout the garment. Therefore, only wash it if you absolutely must. Wash it at 30°C and make sure to spin the garment thoroughly. Take it out of the washing machine immediately when the program is finished. Hang it up to dry and shake/fluff the garment a few times during the drying period to redistribute the filling evenly. If necessary, you can tumble dry the garment on a cold/low setting, preferably with tennis balls.

Wool garments

Since wool clothing is naturally antibacterial and odour-repellent, they don't need to be washed as often as other garments. Often, simply airing them outdoors for a while is sufficient. Wool should be washed at 30°C, preferably using a wool or delicate cycle. We recommend using OrganoTex® BioCare Wool and Down Wash to maintain the softness of the wool. Avoid tumble drying as wool can easily shrink.

Rainwear

To extend the water repellency of your rainwear and make it last longer, you should avoid washing them more often than necessary. Try to wipe the garment first. If you must wash the item, do so at 30°C and hang it up to dry afterwards. Don't forget to re-impregnate your rainwear regularly to maintain its water repellency.

Bamboo clothing

Since bamboo garments are naturally antibacterial and odour-repellent, they don't need to be washed as often as other clothes. Often, simply airing them outdoors for a while is sufficient. When you do need to wash a bamboo garment, do so at 40°C. Avoid tumble drying as bamboo garments can easily shrink.

Tops, trousers and tights

Wash our performance tops, riding tights, and performance pants at 30°C. Do not tumble dry them; instead, hang them up to dry after washing. Please note that Stella Wool Pants and Woolblend Breechers contain wool and should be washed according to the instructions for wool garments.
